20180602 - Fire Department of Mt Juliet - FF1 Training Evaluations
The Fire Department of the City of Mount Juliet conducted Live Burn Evaluations for fire recruits that have been undergoing training over the last ten months to achieve Firefighter-1 certification.
This certification level permits these firefighters to operate in Interior structural firefighting (IDLH) environments. IDLH stands for Imminently Dangerous to Life or Health and is defined by the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as exposure to airborne contaminants that is "likely to cause death or immediate or delayed permanent adverse health effects or prevent escape from such an environment."
The evaluation process completed today was a first in FDMJ history in which all six required evaluations were completed in-house and lead by an all-FDMJ instructor cadre.
Assistant Chief Shawn Donovan [Chief-103] served as Lead Instructor/Incident Commander with Chief of Department Jamie Luffman [Chief-101], (C Shift) Captain Mike Leal [1103], (Volunteer) Lieutenant Ryan Benson [1210], (Volunteer) Lieutenant David Combs [1240], (Volunteer) Lieutenant Brian Diehl [1220], (Volunteer) Lt Marshall McGough [1230], (B Shift) Lieutenant Jason Ross [1120], (B Shift) FF Tyler Benefield [1124], and (Volunteer) FF Derek Hyde [1211] serving as Instructors and Safety, Accountability and Ignition Officers.
The evaluations were conducted at the City of Lebanon Fire Department's Fire Training Facility. Refreshments and rehab were provided by the Wilson County Emergency Services Rehabilitation Association [Rehab 23], and The Wilson County Emergency Management Agency provided their Air Trailer and staffing (Lieutenant David Cross and Firefighter Becky Null) to refill the air bottles used during training. Lunch was donated by Mission BBQ.
Congratulations to the following Volunteer Fire Recruits:
