20190126 - Hawai'i - O'ahu - Laie - House Fire
55-109 Naupaka St - Just before 3:00 PM, the Honolulu Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire. Responding units could see thick black smoke from a distance.
The first arriving unit was Engine-13 under the command of Captain Farr. Upon arrival he advised that he had thick blinding smoke emanating form a residential structure and declared a working fire, and that a hydrant was located at the end of the driveway. Upon his 360º survey, he found heavy fire on the B/C corner which was consuming much of the C side of the home. In addition, there was strong winds feeding the fire. A Second Alarm was then transmitted for additional manpower to the scene.
Two 1.75" handlines were stretched and placed in operation. Multiple additional units were also en route to the scene, including Engine-19R, Tanker-15, Engine-36R, Engine-21, Engine-25R, Engine-14, and Ladder-17. Additionally, Deputy Chief Lionel Camara Jr. responded to the scene and assumed the role of incident commander.
Once additional units arrived, a 2.5" attack line was stretched to the rear of the structure.
Once the main body of fire was knocked down, extensive overhaul would be necessary to ensure there would not be a rekindle, due to the high winds.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Honolulu Fire Department. It is unknown if there were any injuries to firefighters or civilians.
