20230117 - Unincorporated Lebanon - Water Rescue
Baldy Ford Rd - At approximately 9:45 am, a 911 call was received reporting a vehicle in the water with someone trapped. State troopers, Sheriff's Deputies, and Fire/Rescue were all dispatched to the scene.
Law Enforcement was first to arrive on the scene, they located the vehicle and helped coordinate getting resources to the right location to effect a rescue.
Wilson County EMA Medic-1 (A Shift) and Shift Commander James Copas [600] arrived on the scene with Rescue-1 right behind them. A short time later, Engine-11 and Special Operations Lieutenant James Hendricks [804] also arrived and a rescue plan was formed.
Three rescue swimmers launched an inflatable raft and made their way to the 4-door sedan sitting in water that was up over the hood. The driver's window was open and the vehicle was also full of water. When rescuers reached the 86-year old driver, they assisted him in placing a life vest on and then extracted him from the car into their boat and brought him to shore just a little ways down stream of the incident.
The gentleman, who normally walks with a cane, was assisted up the hill to a waiting stretcher and the crew of the Medic unit.
