20220209 - Unincorporated Mount Juliet - Structure Fire
9635 Central Pike - At approximately 8:20 PM, Wilson County Firefighters and Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a reported barn fire with animals trapped.
The first unit to arrive was a deputy who confirmed the incident to his dispatcher, and that information was passed along to responding units. The deputy looked for a way to try and free some of the animals, but as it turned out, the majority had already escaped the blaze.
The first due engine was Wilson County EMA Engine-5 (A shift), under the command of Lieutenant John Kunstman [606]. His radio report indicated that the structure was 75% involved and his crew would be initiating a defensive attack beginning with the deck gun. As firefighters deployed a 2.5 inch handling, the engineer placed the deck gun in operation.
A short time later, Engine-3 and Engine-6 arrived on the scene and their engineers established water supply operations while the other crew members aided in suppression efforts. Shift Commander James Copas [600] and Fire Chief / Deputy Director Jeremy Hobbs [901] also assisted on the scene.
With the main body of fire knocked down, it would take some time still to overhaul what was left of the structure, and make sure all hotspots were soaked.
No firefighters or civilians were injured during this operation, however one of the family’s dogs perished and another ran away. A baby goat also sustained some burns.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency.
