20210913 - Unincorporated Mount Juliet - Motor Vehicle Accident
2529 South Mt Juliet Road - At approximately 9:30 AM, units from the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency and the Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle collision with serious injuries.
Units from the Sheriff's Office were first on the scene and advised dispatch of two critical patients.
Wilson EMA Engine-5 (B Shift), under the command of Lieutenant Aaron Hicks, was the first on the scene. Lt. Hicks advised he had an SUV vs a Utility truck, head-on, with entrapment in both vehicles. Engine-3, Medic-5, and Medic-3 were also en route to the scene.
Upon the arrival of Engine-3, Captain Alan Kaiser [601] assumed command of the incident. While en route, following the report of heavy entrapment in both vehicles, he requested WEMA Rescue-1 and engine from the City of Mount Juliet to respond to the scene, as well as two Medevac helicopters.
As rescuers worked so hard to free the two victims, the 21 year old male in the SUV succumbed to his injuries. The second helicopter was cancelled and he was removed to an ambulance.
As extrication was completed on one vehicle, additional resources could focus efforts on the other vehicle.
LifeFlight-5 was responding from its base in Murfreesboro. Upon arrival, the crew went to work assisting the ground crews from Wilson EMA by providing Advanced Trauma Care and resuscitation.
Once freed, a 40 year old male was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he later died.
The cause of the incident is under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
