20210305 - City of Mount Juliet - Suspicious Package
IVO 1000 Herschel Drive - At approximately 12:45 PM, As the Mt Juliet Police Department was wrapping up another incident in the area, two astute Detectives noticed a piece of luggage and a red bag along the side of the road. This piqued their attention especially since they were just leaving a protest with uncooperative suspects. This information was radioed in to their supervisors.
The area was cordoned off and area businesses were partially evacuated and / or requested to shelter-in-place. An explosives detective K9 from the Lebanon Police Department was requested to respond and assist. Additionally, the Fire Department of Mt Juliet responded to the scene in the event that something went terribly wrong.
Lebanon Police Captain Mike VanHook, and his K9 Eik (pronounced Ike) responded to the scene and gave the items a sniff. Captain VanHook made the determination that it was safe for he and detectives to open the luggage and investigate further.
Once opened, it was clear that the bag contained someones personal items and the bag was not a threat to the public and businesses were permitted to re-occupy their buildings and roadways were reopened. The items were removed from the area by the Mt Juliet Police Department and detectives continued to investigate to determine who the owner was.
There were no injuries to civilians or law enforcement personnel.
