20201022 - City of Mount Juliet - Truck Fire
Interstate 40 eastbound at mile marker 224.9 - At 12:47 PM, the Fire Department of Mt. Juliet was dispatched to a reported dump-truck on fire. Police units were also dispatched to the scene for traffic control.
Mt. Juliet Police officers arrived on the scene and advised dispatch they had a 'fully engulfed dump truck'. The next arriving unit was FDMJ Chief of Department, Jamie Luffman [Chief-101], He advised the same.
The responding apparatus was Engine-104 (B Shift), under the command of Captain Brent Blamires [1102], which would have to travel down to the next exit on the interstate and turn around to reach the scene on the eastbound side.
Upon arrival, it was evident that a dump truck had experienced a mechanical issue resulting in a fire which extended to the tandem rear wheels. The fire was knocked down relatively quickly and the incident placed under control.
The operator of the truck noticed the brake failure and the blowing of a tire, and shredded several wheels and tires in the time it took to slow the vehicle and move it to the shoulder, also tearing the fuel tank open. The fire extended to all the rear tires while waiting for the Fire Department to arrive. Thankfully, the fuel tank remained intact and did not ignite.
There were no injuries to the operator of the truck or responding firefighters.
