20200806 - City of Mount Juliet - Excavator Fire
Carlisle Place (Wynfield Subdivision) - At 1:20 PM, the Fire Department of Mount Juliet was dispatched to a report of an excavator on fire.
The first arriving unit, Engine-104 (C Shift), under the command of Lieutenant Drew Noland, advised dispatch that they were in the area with heavy smoke showing, but there were no roads or any clear way to access the fire. After additional investigation, and some short travel on a construction road, Engine-104 arrived on the scene... or as close as they could get.
Firefighters deployed the front trash line with two additional lengths of 1.75 inch hose and were able to reach the piece of machinery, a large CAT 336F excavator. which was well involved at this point. As suppression was started, FDMJ Squad-103 and Wilson County EMA Engine-5 were requested to respond to the scene for additional water.
According to the operator of the machine, there was 150 gallons of diesel fuel and about 140 gallons of hydraulic fluid onboard.
After a lengthy battle with the fuel-fed fire, the incident was placed under control and the fire extinguished. There were no injuries to any firefighters or civilians.
