20200519 - Unincorporated Mount Juliet - House Fire
2034 Mires Rd - At 8:35 PM, the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency and the Wilson County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of a confirmed structure fire. The caller reported a fire in a vacant 3,000 sqft home.
The first arriving units were Engine-5 & Medic-5 (C Shift) under the command of Firefighter Becky Null [Acting in Charge]. Upon arrival, firefighter Null reported a 100% involved home, strictly defensive operations.
Additional units responding to the scene included two deputies from the Sheriff's Office, Engine-3, Medic-3, Engine-1, Tanker-9, Rehab-23, and Acting Shift Commander, Captain Eric Clinard [802].
Engine-3, under the command of Captain Steve Fox [801] was second due and performed a reverse-lay down the long driveway and established a water shuttle with two engines and the tanker which relayed from a hydrant just over one half mile away.
Two 1.75 inch handlines were placed into operation to extinguish the fire. Once the fire was sufficiently darkened down and all immediate exposure areas were extinguished, the decision was made to allow the structure to burn as a controlled burn and collapse upon itself into the crawlspace.
The structure had been vacant for many years and the plan was to demolish it in two weeks. The property owner had made an agreement with a couple local folks looking for work to start clearing out the structure of all windows, doors, and remove any salvageable copper or other metal. The men doing the work stated that they were burning brush behind the home which in one way or another led to the fire which destroyed the home.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians and the incident remains under investigation by the Wilson County sheriff's Office Criminal Investigative Division.
