20200425 - Tornado Damage Survey
Bell Road & Bluebird Road - At 4:50 PM, a severe-warned thunderstorm began to show rotation on radar and the National Weather Service broadcast a Tornado Warning.
In the couple minutes that the cell was still in Wilson County, two houses and a barn were damaged and the tornado also overturned a tractor trailer traveling east on Interstate-40.
The weather cell, which was not far from the Smith County border to start with quickly exited Wilson County.
The primary concern and initial response was to the interstate where two vehicles had collided, the tractor trailer overturned, and there were downed trees effecting the outer lanes on both sides of the highway.
Quickly thereafter, other units were dispatched to Bluebird Road and Bell Road to assess damages and determine whether there were injuries to be treated.
National Weather Service surveys have concluded that an EF-1 tornado, approximately 100 yards wide with winds of approximately 90 MPH, traveled a path approximately 4 miles long and dissipated east of the Grant community in Smith County. It is being reported that there were three injuries associated with the tornado-caused traffic accident.
