20200211 - Unincorporated Mount Juliet - Pursuit/Crash
6180 Central Pike - Shortly before 4:30 PM, Mount Juliet Police officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle by their Automated License Plate Reader system. The vehicle was a black Toyota Highlander and it was traveling eastbound on Lebanon Road. The description and license plate information was broadcast to all officers and they were instructed to “Be On the Look Out” for the vehicle which had been reported stolen to the Murfreesboro Police Department.
An officer observed the vehicle in the vicinity of Interstate-40 and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The operator refused to stop and attempted to evade the now pursuing officers. The pursuit traveled west on Central Pike before the driver lost control and plunged the vehicle into the side of a house which was thankfully unoccupied at the time.
Additional Mt Juliet Police Officers and Wilson County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and the house was surrounded, and the interior was cleared. Numerous MJPD officers who are also detailed to the Special Response Team were on the scene and formed an ad hoc team and approached the vehicle, not knowing the location of the driver, his condition, or whether or not he was armed. As they approached with ballistic shields, rifles, and guns drawn, it became evident that the driver was entrapped in the vehicle and was not going anywhere. The man was held at gunpoint while firefighters from the Fire Department of Mount Juliet and Wilson County EMA medical personnel extricated him.
The subject, 47 year old Glen Adams, who was apparently under the influence of intoxicants, was transported to an area hospital where he was evaluated for any injures he may have sustained in the high-speed collision with the house.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol was requested to the scene to conduct a crash investigation, as is common practice when involved in a pursuit.
The Mount Juliet Police Department has confirmed that the driver has numerous other felony charges in surround counties related to theft and drug activity. Those will be in addition to the new vehicle theft, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, DUI 3rd offense, reckless driving, Driving on a revoked license 2nd offense, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He also has served time for voluntary manslaughter and multiple other drug charges.
No civilians or Law Enforcement Officers were injured during the pursuit.
