20200120 - City of Mount Juliet - Shooting
120 Providence Trail - At about 8:30 AM, multiple calls began coming in to Wilson County 911 reporting a possible shooting outside building 1 of Meridian at Providence Apartments. Calls indicated that an adult female had been shot by a male suspect. Mount Juliet Police & Fire Communications and Wilson County EMA were both notified of the same and they began dispatching units to the scene.
First arriving police units located an adult female victim with multiple gunshot wounds and began to render aid when the suspect was spotted and he was quickly taken into custody.
First responders from the Fire Department of Mount Juliet and Wilson County Emergency Management Agency, who were staging in the area awaiting the scene to be secured by police, then responded in and began treating the victim and preparing her for transport to a hospital.
Once an initial assessment and urgent life-saving treatments were performed, the patient was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
With the suspect in custody and the victim on her way to the hospital, officers were able to shift their focus to securing the crime scene, cordoning off the area, and preserving evidence. Members of the Criminal Investigations Division were also notified to respond to the scene and take the lead on the case.
UPDATE: Mount Juliet Police have confirmed that 26 year old Jerald Riggs shot his 48 year old mother multiple times with a small calibre handgun. She remains in critical, but stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Both were residents of the apartment complex. At this time, Jerald Riggs has been charged with Attempted Criminal Homicide.
