20200119 - Unincorporated Lebanon - Structure Fire
10620 Highway 109 North - At approximately 8:45 PM, firefighters form the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency were dispatched to a report of a fire at the Lakeside Stor-n-loc self storage facility. The caller reported hearing a popping sound and there was visible smoke.
The first arriving unit was Engine-6 (B Shift) with an initial report of smoke showing form 4 storage units in a one story metal building.
Additional responding units included Engine-3, Engine-5, Engine-9, Medic-9, Shift Commander Lee Bowling [700], Division Chief Marty Heckman [905], Wilson County Sheriff's Deputies, and responders from Wilson County Rehab-23.
Initially, one 1.75 inch handline was stretched and after forcing entry into the first unit with suspected fire within, the main body of fire was knocked down. As additional crews arrived on the scene, additional storage units were forced open and checked for extension. It appeared that fire was contained to the single unit but there was heavy smoke in several adjoining units.
The original fire unit was packed chock full, as is often the case, making overhaul difficult. All of the contents would need to be removed and soaked down to ensure no hidden pockets of fire remained. A second 1.75 in handline was stretched to aid with overhaul.
Highway 109 was shut down in both directions for approximately an hour while a supply line was connected to a hydrant near the corner of Cherokee Dock Road.
No firefighters or civilians were injured in relation to this incident. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency. The owner of the facility stated that the gate code for the renter of the unit had not been used all weekend. The reporting party, another renter, had been present for some time before noticing any signs of smoke and stated that nobody had been in that storage unit.
