20191019 - City of Mount Juliet - Structure Fire
229 Sunny Acre Dr - Just before 8:45AM, City of Mount Juliet firefighters and police officers were dispatched to a home in the vicinity of Sunny Acre Drive and Sunrise Circle to a report of a rear deck on fire. The caller was unable to provide an exact address or advise whether anyone was in the home.
Engine-104 and QRV-1 (A Shift), under the command of Captain Jason Ross [1101] were first due. Capt. Ross advised that he did have an active fire in the rear of the residence.
One 1.75 inch hand line was stretched to the C/D corner and the main body of fire was knocked down. A team of two firefighters then made entry into the residence which was moderately charged with smoke. After a brief primary search, they located an adult male still sleeping in a room above the garage and removed him from the residence.
A short while later, Squad-103 and Chief-101 arrived on the scene and assisted with the extinguishing, overhaul, and investigation; and an ambulance from the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency responded to evaluate the occupant for possible smoke inhalation.
A total of 11 Mount Juliet firefighters responded to this incident - 8 career and 3 volunteer.
The point of origin was a backyard "camp fire" which was too close to the home and had been carelessly left burning the night before and had extended to flammable materials nearby including the deck.
Neither the resident or his dog suffered any injuries as a result of this fire.
Coincidentally, it was discovered by police officers on the scene that the occupant had an outstanding warrant and he was taken into custody and transported to the Wilson County Jail.
