20190806 - Unincorporated Mount Juliet - House Fire
231 Northwest Clearview Drive - At 8:49 PM, firefighters from the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency were dispatched to a possible house fire. At the time, a severe-warned thunder storm with copious amounts of lightning was passing through the area.
The first arriving unit was Engine-4 (A Shift) under the command of Lieutenant Lisa Heckman [605]. She reported smoke showing form the residence and would be investigating further.
After initial investigation, Lieutenant Heckman advised she had smoke and fire in the attic and would be initiating an interior attack, all other responding units were to arrive packed up and ready to assist.
Second due units were Engine-3 and Medic-3 under the command of Captain Alan Kaiser [601]. Upon arrival, additional attack lines were stretched and a nurse line from Engine-3 to Engine-4 was established.
Crews had difficulty accessing some areas of the attic where the main body of fire was located, but after a while the fire appeared to be knocked down. Firefighters used greater than 3,000 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze, but were able to make an excellent stop and save the entire structure, with the exception of smoke and water damage.
Additional units that responded to the scene included Engine-6, Medic-4, Shift Commander James Copas [600], Fire Chief / Deputy Director Jeremy Hobbs [901], and Rehab-23.
The cause of the fire was an apparent lightning strike to the roof. There were no injuries to firefighters or the residents of the home. American Red Cross Disaster Services responded to the scene to offer assistance to the displaced residents.
