2650 North Mount Juliet Road (Mount Juliet Healthcare) - At 10:40PM, The Fire Department of the City of Mount Juliet was dispatched to a commercial fire alarm with activations of the general alarm system as well as a water-flow alarm. Dispatched advised that they would be attempting to reach the location by telephone.
Upon the arrival of Squad-103 (B Shift), Lieutenant Brent Blamires [1120] advised he had nothing visible from the front of a 1 story nursing home facility, and the crew would be in investigative mode. At this time, dispatch advised Lieutenant Blamires that contact with the facility was made and they advised there was a fire in the kitchen. The alarm was then upgraded to a Commercial Structure Fire with full department response.
Upon entry of the building, employees directed the firefighters to the kitchen where a significant smoke condition was found, along with an activation of the sprinkler system. One 1.75" handline was stretched to the side entrance of the building.
Deputy Chief Christopher Allen [Chief-102] arrived on the scene and assumed command. Crews located, extinguished, and removed a small garbage can from the kitchen. The fire had been contained by the sprinkler system and was completely extinguished using a 2.5gal water extinguisher.
Engine-104, under the command of [Acting] Captain Jason Ross [1102], arrived on the scene and was tasked with a room by room check of the remainder of the facility. Residents were not evacuated from the facility as there was no extension out of the kitchen area, nor any further smoke condition.
Chief Jamie Luffman [Chief-101] and Assistant Chief Shawn Donovan [Chief-103] also responded to the scene as did numerous units from the Mount Juliet Police Department and two ambulances from the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency. Tower-114 and Ladder-111 were en route but canceled prior to arrival. A total of 16 FDMJ firefighters responded, a combination of both career and volunteer personnel.
The fire was contained to a small trash can and a couple small boxes. There was no extension to any part of the structure. The smoke condition was mitigated. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Department of Mount Juliet. There were no injuries to firefighters, civilians, or residents.
