20190129 - Unincorporated Lebanon - House Fire
1390 West Richmond Shop Road - A little after 3:30 PM, Wilson County firefighters were dispatched to a report of a house on fire. It was unknown if anyone was inside.
Engine-51 (A Shift), under the command of Lieutenant John Partridge [604] responded out of the Gladeville station and advised that smoke could be seen as soon as they pulled out of the bay, which was only 3 miles away.
Upon arrival, Lieutenant Partridge advised that he had heavy fire showing from the East side of the structure and declared this a working fire. Engine-51 & Medic-51 then began an offensive attack, deploying two 1.75" handlines.
Additional responding units included Engine-11, Engine-61, and Tanker-91, and the Wilson County Sheriff's Office.
Shift Commander James Copas [600] arrived on the scene and advised he had heavy smoke and fire showing from a 1.5 story single family residence and assumed command. He requested a response from Middle Tennessee Electric for live wires down in the yard.
As additional units arrived on scene, a water shuttle operation was started, but the nearest hydrant was deemed unusable, and the next nearest was nearly a mile down the road in the opposite direction. Shift Commander Copas requested an additional unit , Engine-111, to be dispatched for additional manpower and to assist with tanker shuttles.
As crews worked to access the fire from within the structure, they encountered tongue and groove wall and ceilings, making access difficult.
Wilson County Rehab-23 responded to provide scene support to the members working on the scene. They also obtained donated food for the firefighters from Chic-fil-A in Lebanon, which not only fed them, but also helped warm them -- the temperature was approximately 25º and the sun had gone down. Water was starting to freeze on all surfaces.
After approximately three hours, the fire was declared under control and units were able to begin breaking down and packing up their equipment.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency. There were no injuries to firefighters and civilians.
