20181005 - City of Mt Juliet - Suspicious Device
Robinson Park - At approximately 4:40PM, a call was made to Mt Juliet Police reporting what appeared to be a grenade on a lamp post along a walking trail in Robinson Park.
Officers arrived on scene to find what appeared to be a toy/replica hand grenade resting atop a lamp post. The park was evacuated. The item did not appear to pose a threat, but to err on the side of caution, representatives from the Tennessee Highway Patrol Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit were contacted and they stated that they would respond and render the device safe (detonate in place).
Once on scene, a robot was deployed to investigate and examine the item. At 8:04PM the item was destroyed and any possible threat eliminated.
There were no injuries and the park was reopened afterward. Detectives are investigating further to attempt to identify the person or persons responsible for placing the item in the park.
