20180823 - City of Lebanon - Scrap Yard Fire
790 Cainsville Road - At approximately 6:30 PM, a column of black smoke was observed emanating from the area of Cainsville Road. It could be seen by many at the Wilson County Fair. It was also visible from Mt Juliet and Watertown.
Shift Commanders from both the City of Lebanon Fire Department and the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency responded to the area to locate the source.
It was eventually determined to be a large pile of tires at Lebanon Scrap Metals & Salvage.
Lebanon Fire Department Shift Commander Nick McCorkle made the determination that due to the size and inaccessibility of the fire, it would be left to free-burn. There simply would not be enough water to extinguish it.
Once Commander McCorkle was satisfied that the fire was contained to the pile of tires and was not spreading, the majority of units were returned to service and the fire was left to burn but would remain supervised.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the City of Lebanon Police and Fire Departments.
