20180605 - Unincorporated Mount Juliet - Overturned Truck
1175 East Division Street - At 11:45 AM, emergency responders from the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency and Wilson County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene of a reported truck accident. At the same time, Mount Juliet Police and the Fire Department of Mount Juliet also received a call for a wreck in the same area but inside the city limits. All four agencies responded.
One of the first to arrive was an off-duty Mt Juliet police officer that advised there was an overturned dump truck down an embankment, and that the driver was entrapped, and in and out of consciousness.
Moments later, Wilson County Medic-31 and Engine-31 (C Shift), under the command of Captain Steve Fox [601], arrived on the scene. Right behind them was FDMJ Engine-104 (B Shift) under the command of Lieutenant Jason Ross [1120].
Both agencies worked together to free the driver from the truck who was reportedly unrestrained at the time of the crash. Once removed, he was transferred to the care of the crew of Vanderbilt LifeFlight-1 for transportation to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Once the patient was safely off the scene in the care of the flight crew, crews gathered up all equipment and made a second check for any leaks or other hazards, of which there were none. All WEMA and FDMJ units cleared the scene. The scene was turned over to Trooper Ware of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Hamblen's Wrecker Service was able to begin recovery of the truck.
The truck, belonging to Jones Brothers Construction, was loaded with old asphalt. Representatives of Jones Brothers responded to the scene and helped offload the truck before it could be uprighted. Once emptied, Hamblen's wasted no time at all getting the truck back on the road and removed from the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
