20180604A - Old Hickory - House Fire
208 Beech Drive - Just moments before 5:00AM, a 911 call was received from a subject reporting their neighbor's house was on fire. Wilson County EMA firefighters and the Wilson County Sheriff's Officer were immediately dispatched.
The first to arrive was a Sheriff's Deputy that located the occupant in her vehicle in the roadway in front of the house. He was able to verify that there was nobody else in the home.
A couple minutes later, Engine-41 (A Shift) and Medic-41, under the command of Lieutenant Lisa Heckman [605] arrived on the scene.
As Lieutenant Heckman completed her 360º survey of the structure, a hydrant was secured and one 1.75" handline was stretched to the rear of the home. Firefighters initiated a transitional attack and were able to quickly knock down the main body of fire.
The next in units were Engine-31, Engine-61, Shift Commander James Copas [600], and Tanker-91. Crews worked to open up the ceilings and walls to expose any hidden fire. A second 1.75" handline was deployed through the front door when additional fire was found in the attic space.
This fire was quickly placed under control and salvage and overhaul were relatively brief. Crews were able to pick up and clear the scene in just over two hours.
There were no injuries during the operation, to either firefghters or the resident. The American Red Cross was contacted to respond to the scene. The fire reportedly started in the kitchen area, but the cause is under investigation by the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency.
