20180507 - Old Hickory - Vehicle in the Water
Needmore Road & Shutes Branch Road - At approximately 1:30 PM, responders from the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency, The Wilson County Sheriff's Office, and The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a report of a vehicle off the roadway into a cove off Old Hickory Lake.
Witnesses reported seeing a female leave the scene on foot prior to the arrival of emergency responders. One good samaritan climbed down the embankment and entered the water to check the vehicle for any other occupants, which there were none.
Once on scene, firefighters and EMT's from Wilson EMA further checked the car and walked the banks of the lake 500+ feet in either direction to see if there were any possible victims in the water. Again, none were found. Deputies from the Sheriff's Office canvassed the roads in the area in an attempt to locate the operator of the vehicle.
Once it was clear that there was no victim(s) of the crash and there were no apparent hazards, WEMA Medic-41 and Engine-41 returned to service and left the scene.
Hamblen's Wrecker Service responded to the scene to recover the vehicle, a Nissan Rogue, from the water. Once removed, it was inventoried and impounded.
The incident remains under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
