20180126 - City of Mount Juliet - Brush Fire
605 South Rutland Road - Shortly after 3:15PM, A Wilson County Sheriff's Deputy was advised by a motorist that there was a small fire on the side of the road on South Rutland Road. The deputy responded and located the fire and the Fire Department of the City of Mount Juliet was notified.
Brush-100 and Engine-104 (C Shift) under the command of Captain Mike Leal [1103] arrived on the scene and began to attack the fire. A gust of wind picked up and fanned the fire which rapidly spread up a hill and out of control. Captain Leal then requested additional resources to the scene to assist.
Dry, windy conditions lead to the rapid growth of the fire which spread up a hillside and down into a ravine. FDMJ Squad-103 responded to the scene, as well as resources from The Wilson County Emergency Management Agency, which included Engine-31 (B Shift), Engine-61, Brush-31, and Brush-11 (Staffed by Shift Commander Lee Bowling [700])
Firefighters were able to enlist the help of a construction worker with a bull dozer that was working on the land nearby in a new subdivision. This piece of equipment proved to be instrumental in extinguishing much of the fire.
Firefighters from Mount Juliet and Wilson County worked for nearly three hours to make sure the fire was extinguished and that all hot-spots were addressed.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
