20180103 - Unincorporated Mount Juliet - Barn Fire
1460 Posey Hill Road - At approximately 2:10PM, firefighters from the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency were dispatched to a report of a 1000 sqft outbuilding on fire, with animals reportedly inside.
Engine-51 (C Shift), under the command of Lieutenant Scott Lorden [805], was the first arriving unit and they encountered a large concentration of white smoke emanating from cinderblock construction barn. They were met by the caller who told them that this was a livestock barn for goats and there was a fire in one of the stalls. All of the animals had been evacuated, and they were able to extinguish much of the fire with a few buckets of water.
Engine-51 stretched on 1.75 inch handline and saw to it that all remaining hot spots were extinguished. Engine-31, Engine-61, and Medic-101 also responded to the scene in short order.
Incident Commander Captain Steve Fox [801] placed the incident under control after some overhaul, and all units were able to return to service.
The barn was used to house goats, and the fire originated in one of the stalls. The cause was determined to be a "safety" heat lamp that was only one week old.
Though all of the animals were able to be evacuated from the barn, two sustained some superficial burns. No other injuries were associated with the fire.
