20171203 - City of Mount Juliet - Car Fire
Interstate 40 Eastbound Exit 226 - Just minutes before 12:00 noon, firefighters from the Fire Department of Mount Juliet were dispatched to a reported car fire on one of the exit ramps from Interstate-40. Police were first to arrive and shut down traffic and advised that responding fire units could proceed counter-flow down the "A" ramp.
The first Unit on scene was Brush-100 manned by Firefighter Andy Hassler and one of FDMJ's explorer post members. The vehicle was fully involved and had spread to some brush on the side of the ramp.
Just as Brush-100 came to a stop, the burning vehicle, for reasons unknown, began to roll down the "A" ramp towards the officers that had closed the ramp top traffic. After traveling approximately fifty feet, the vehicle turned and rolled down on to the "B/C" ramp and came to a stop.
Just then, Engine-104 (C Shift), under the command of Captain Michael Leal, arrived on scene and began suppression efforts. Brush-100 was tasked with extinguishing the brush fire.
The whole incident was quickly brought under control and the vehicle was removed from the roadway. All units were able to return to service and the roadway was reopened.
When police and firefighters arrived on the scene, there was no sign of the vehicle operator anywhere. The cause of the fire is under investigation by FDMJ and MJPD.
