20171125 - Unincorporated Mount Juliet - House Fire
718 Poplar Dr - At approximately 9:40PM, Wilson County Emergency Management Agency firefighters were dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire with the caller stating their porch was on fire.
The first arriving unit was Medic-101 [C Shift] who reported that the home was at the end of a long driveway, but there was nothing showing from the street. Once the crew had fully geared up and walked up the driveway where they found the homeowner and a neighbor who were trying to keep the flames at bay with a garden hose. The fire involved the covered porch area and had extended up into the wall and eaves of the home.
At about that moment, Engine-51 arrived on scene and one 1.75 in handline was stretched and charged. The majority of the fire was quickly extinguished. Additional units from stations 3, 4, and 9 were also responding to the scene. Crews made entry into the home and located additional small pockets of fire and hotspots in the exterior walls of the attic. With some overhaul the fire was quickly placed under control.
The point of origin appeared to the a barbecue on the covered porch. The homeowner stated that he had been cooking on it, but had turned off the grill two hours earlier. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown but is attributed to the gas grill.
No injuries were sustained, and the residents were permitted to reoccupy the home. A property restoration company was on site to board up the opens portions of the exterior attic wall.
