20171124 - City of Mount Juliet - Building Fire
2650 North Mount Juliet Road [Mount Juliet Healthcare - at 8:03 PM, Mount Juliet Police and Fire Communications received an emergency call reporting a fire at a Nursing and Rehab facility. Firefighters and Police units, as well as an Ambulance from Wilson EMA were immediately dispatched to the scene.
In just moments, units arrived on scene and confirmed the reports that there was heavy smoke in the hallways emanating from room number 105. Police officers began going room by room and evacuating residents.
When the first fire units arrived on scene, there was nothing visible from the outside of the building, but the halls were filled with smoke. Upon this finding, additional ambulances were requested from Wilson EMA. It appeared that the sprinklers had extinguished most, if not all of the fire, but a handline was stretched through the south hallway door, and crews verified the fire was out.
Some overhaul was needed to verify that there had been no extension out of the original fire room, but the majority of the time after would be spend evacuating all 17 residents from the south hallway, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of those evacuated, instituting a Shelter-in-Place condition throughout the rest of the building, and making sure there were no further hazards.
Once the fire was confirmed out and the incident marked under control, all of the residents were able to be moved in to the facility's cafeteria area.
The fire appeared to originate in the vicinity of one of the resident's beds. The sprinkler system was able to extinguish the fire, and staff members was able to quickly remove the patient from the room.
Three residents were transported top an area hospital as a precautionary measure. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Fire Department of The City of Mount Juliet responded to this incident with (6) on duty [B Shift] paid firefighters and (1) on-shift volunteer on Squad-103 and Engine-104, (2) volunteer firefighters, including one volunteer lieutenant responded to the scene in Ladder-111, (4) volunteer firefighters responded to the scene in their personal vehicles, and Chief Jamie Luffman and Deputy Chief Chris Allen responded in their vehicles making the total response from Mount Juliet 15 personnel.
The Mount Juliet Police Department responded with 7 officers including Lieutenants Neely and Long, and Corporal Owens.
The Wilson County Emergency Management Agency responded to the scene with 4 [B Shift] ambulances (31, 41, 61, 101), the Shift Commander (700), two Division Chiefs (902, 905), and the Fire Chief/Deputy Director (901) for a total of 12 personnel.
The fully functioning fire alarm system and sprinkler system, along with quick thinking staff members prevented this incident from becoming a tragedy.
