20140901 - City of Mount Juliet - Building Fire
401 South Mount Juliet Rd, Suite #145 - Shortly after 6:30 am, an employee reporting to work unlocked the front doors of the Taco Bell and was met by heat and smoke. She immediately called 911 and FDMJ and WEMA units were dispatched. When Squad-103 arrived on scene, they had smoke showing from the 25' x 50' one story flat roof commercial building. As Firefighters Sills and Waller advanced the first handline through the front door, they reported dense smoke and zero visibility. Once they opened op the nozzle and put some water through the drop ceiling, they could see fire rolling around above their heads. The incident commander would be Chief of Department Erron Kinney [Chief-101]. Additional apparatus and manpower began to arrive on scene, and an additional attack team entered the structure. Before long, crews located the seat of the fire and were able to knock the flames down. During overhaul it was discovered that several roof support members had burnt through, the same section of roof that had a large HVAC unit resting on it. The roof was deemed unsafe and all members were pulled out of the building. Overhaul was completed from the bucket of Tower Ladder-114 and with an exterior handline. After nearly two hours duration, the incident was placed under control, and there were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Fire Marshal Dwayne Hicks [Chief-104].
