20180324 - Nashville - Motor Vehicle Collision
Jefferson Street between Rosa L Parks Blvd & 9th Ave North - Shortly before 4:30 PM, Metro Nashville Police officers attempted to stop a white Mercury Grand Marquis, for reasons unknown, and that vehicle fled. As the operator was attempting to elude officers, he traveled down Jefferson Street at a high rate of speed, striking multiple vehicles and disregarding traffic control devices.
Immediately after crossing the intersection of Rosa L Parks Blvd, the vehicle struck another vehicle head on, and careened into another. This impact caused the driver to be ejected out the back window of his vehicle. The driver of the vehicle he struck was pined inside her truck, and a utility pole with live wires was knocked down.
A Nashville Fire Department Ambulance in close proximity to this location witnessed the accident and requested fire and rescue resources be dispatched to assist.
Engine 2, Ladder 2, and Rescue 2 (A Shift) responded to the scene and began working to free the entrapped diver in the pickup truck. The ambulance that was at the scene when the incident occurred transported the driver of the white Mercury, to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in cardiac arrest. Once freed, the driver of the pickup was also transported to a hospital.
Once all victims were removed from the scene, all Fire Department resources returned to service and cleared the scene. The roadway remained closed for some time for police to investigate the incident and for vehicle recovery.
