Route 106 between Sugar Toms Lane and Griffin Lane - Police, Fire , and EMS responded to this scene near the Vernon Elementary School where an SUV crashed into a tree and fence, resulting in potentially serious injuries to the driver who also became trapped in the vehicle. The East Norwich Fire Department deployed their TNT Hydraulic Rescue Tools to free the driver from his car, which had about 12 inches of intrusion into the drivers space. There was also the matter of several fallen tree branches that had to be cut to gain access to the victim. Once freed, the sole occupant of the vehicle was transported to the rear of the Vernon Elementary School where NCPD Helicopter 6 was waiting to take him to Nassau University Medical Center.
