20131027 - Glen Cove - House Fire
22 Marietta Rd - The City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department responded to this house fire after receiving a call from one of the department’s members stating that the house across the street from his was on fire. Chief Rodni Leftwich [5200] who was the on-duty dispatcher transmitted the General Alarm for a House Fire. Captain Justin Valeo was the first officer on the scene quickly followed by 2nd Assistant Chief Phil Grella [5202], and the Signal 10 [Working Fire] was transmitted. Engine 528 was first due and took the hydrant right in front of the residence. Engine 529 and Ladder 5211 arrived right behind and crews immediately went to work. When 1st Assistant Chief Joe Solomito [5201] arrived on the scene he established a command post and assumed Incident Command. Initially it was unclear whether the occupant of the house was home, but the primary search throughout the house proved to be negative. The resident arrived home a short time later. As a result of their quick and aggressive attack, the majority of the house remains intact at this time. No civilians or members were injured in the process. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office.
