Cedar Swamp Road & Meadowood Lane, Upper Brookville - Between 7 and 8 AM this morning, 911 received a call for help. The caller stated that a car had struck a utility pole, and the driver was trapped in the vehicle. Rescuers from the East Norwich Fire Company quickly began arriving on the scene. One radio report indicated that a car that had sheared off a utility pole at ground level and then struck a tree, and that the driver was in fact trapped in the vehicle. As more resources arrived on the scene, rescuers began putting the Jaws of Life to work to free the victim. Once freed, the injured party was taken by ambulance a short distance up the road to the parking lot of the Greek Orthodox Church, where Nassau County Police Helicopter-6 was waiting to take them to Nassau University Medical Center.
