20130703 - Muttontown - Police Car MVA
Muttontown-Eastwoods Rd & Coach Ln - Muttontown Police Tahoe 285 was traveling east on Muttontown-Eastwoods Rd when the driver of another vehicle exiting Coach Ln failed to yield the right of way. The Officer driving RMP 285 swerved to avoid the vehicle, inadvertently causing his own vehicle to violently strike a tree. Initially there were reports of entrapment, but the officer managed to escape through the passenger side of the truck. The Syosset Fire Department and NCPD Ambulances responded. He was transported by NCPD Ambulance to a hospital with what were reported to be non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle did not stop. *UPDATE* - Local media is reporting that the Lieutenant driving this vehicle was attempting to give chase to a vehicle traveling in excess of 100 MPH at the time of the crash, when the vehicle that pulled out of the side street caused the Lieutenant to take evasive maneuvers, resulting in him striking the tree.
